Thankfulness and Unremembered Memories

There are childhood events one might not remember. And others we may choose to forget. Sometimes bury. There are lot's of things from my own childhood I can't remember. And others I can barely make out.

Yesterday over my birthday lunch my mother talked to my sister and I about some of my own. Experiences I lived as a child alongside her that I can barely make out and hardly remember. And we cried. As she recounted stories of hardships, poverty and love some pieces of the hazy puzzle slowly etched back together in my memory and made me thankful. To her. For all she endured and overcame when I wasn't even old enough to create a memory but have shaped me into who I am today. I can only pray that in the years to come I can be such a woman to my own children. And that on their birthday they too can feel as loved and thankful for events that have shaped the person they become.
